John Dewar and Sons was instrumental in the development of new whisky markets outside Scotland. Dewar originated in Perth in 1846 and was the first companies to sell its whisky in bottles as well as casks. Doing this opened up a new market in the home rather than just the licensed shop, pub or hotel. Dewar was also a pioneer of whisky advertising and was one of the first companies whose bottles carried its company name. By the time it became part of the Distillers Company Limited in 1925, it owned seven distilleries, such as Aberfeldy and Glen Ord, which are still licensed to Dewar.
''Medium amber color. Buttered caramel coconut, light peat, and vapor aromas. A smooth entry leads to a round medium-to full-bodied palate with sweet malt, dried tropical fruits, toffee, honey roasted nut and brown spice flavors. Finishes with a nice fade of dried fruit and peppery spice. Solid.''
