Redbreast 12 Year Old is the only aged Pure Pot still whiskey on the market today. It was originally launched in 1939 as the brand name given to the pot still whiskey supplied by Jameson to whiskey bonders before bottling at the distillery became the norm in the late 1960's. Stocks of whiskey in bonders' stores died out, and Redbreast disappeared. It was re-launch by the distillery in the 1990s as a single pot still whiskey. This pure pot still whiskey is matured for a minimum of 12 years in sherry casks and Bourbon barrels. Like all good pot still whiskeys, it is strongly flavored and assertive, making it a rare treat for the connoisseur of fine old whiskey.
Nose: Clean, fresh. hint of linseed. Nuts. Cake
Palate: By far the biggest of this selection. Assertive and complex, with lots of development and seemingly infinite dimension. Ginger cake, brazil nuts, treacle
Finish: Licorice-like sherry notes
Comment: Delicious, soothing, contemplative. A great whiskey. Makes me want to get on a plane to Dublin immediately
MIchael Jackson Rating: 9 out of 10
