I believe that there is a link between the winemaker and his wines. When I taste the wines of someone I know well, I can definitely see their temperament in them. If you meet Mark and try his wines you will understand what I mean. They are just like him: Forward, friendly , full of life. I like Markand I like his wines. They bear the imprint of Mark Shannon. A Mano Imprint of Mark Shannon Primitivo 2022
There is no doubt that the wines that I make bear my signature.
Winemaking is such a deep calling for me that I dedicate myself to it with all my soul.
So how could we make a wine that truly reflected my personality?
A big, bold wine ready to give you a warm strong hug and a smile: IMPRINT.
IMPRINT is made from dried Primitivo grapes, you will find it velvety and supple,
with a soft long finish that envelopes the high alcohol (14,0%).
I made IMPRINT with the desire to reproduce the style of an Amarone,
one of the Italian wines that we most love, elegant and powerful at the same time.
Grape: 100% Primitivo
Location of Vineyards: Lizzano, Pulsano.
Age of vines: 40 to 60 Years Old.
What makes the site unique: The vineyards are on a red/brown sandy soil with a great drainage. The region is an old sea bed, full of fossils of clams, oysters and urchins. The altitude is approximately 10-30 meters above sea level. The climate is classically Mediterranean: windy and warm.
Fermentation Techniques: For Imprint we dry the grapes for five weeks. After that they are pressed, destemmed and cooled to 54°F and the must is allowed to ferment at its own pace. After racking in mid-November, the wine remains in an underground cement tank where the temperature never exceeds 50°F.
Why this wine is unique: A deeply coloured wine with exuberant perfumes of ripe red and black berry fruits, with notes of spice. Made in the style of an Amarone, it is concentrated and opulent on the palate, with great balance. It is elegant, velvety and supple, with a long finish. No wood ageing.
Amano
Mark and Elvezia
The Beginning
Mark is a winemaker from California, Elvezia is a marketing guru from Friuli. They met in Sicily in 1997.
Mark proposed a visit to Puglia to see the very old Primitivo Vines. Mark had heard that Primitivo looked a lot like the Zinfandel that California is famous for. It is now known that they are genetically identical.
The vast extension of Primitivo would be an enchantment for anyone; for a California winemaker it was a calling. It was supposed to be a short vacation; they never left.
The Rest of the Story
Nothing has changed from the beginning; they produce excellent wines from exclusively native grapes. Their interpretation is a modern style with profound respect for the region. The philosophy is to offer extraordinary quality at reasonable prices.
Why “A Mano”?
Mark and Elvezia are artisans. They control every detail from the vineyard to the bottle with such care that their wines are truly produced by hand.
