Baer Winery Ursa 2013
Our flagship wine, first created in 2000, continues to be our best-loved blend. This Merlot/Cabernet Franc beauty will bring to mind warm blackberry pie, dark chocolate, beef broth, cracked pink peppercorns, bay leaf and laurel. A medium-bodied wine, it is smooth and polished, with nice length and a lifted finish.

Baer Winery
Winemaker Lance Baer founded Baer Winery in 2000 with a single passion - to bring something unique to Woodinville. After years of working with some of the most prestigious wineries in the area, Lance wanted to take his winemaking skills in his own direction. Lance succeeded in handcrafting blends distinctly his own, and in April 2003 the first vintage of the winery’s signature blend, Ursa, was released. Ursa, a feminine expression of red wine, predominantly Merlot and Cabernet Franc, was soon followed by Arctos, a bolder Cabernet Sauvignon-based blend.
As operations moved from an apartment in Redmond to a converted property on six rural acres in Woodinville, the winery was able to grow in production. Lance’s passion went from just 200 cases in 2003 to over 3,000 cases now. In late 2007, Baer Winery moved into the popular warehouse wine complex near downtown Woodinville – a move which has allowed us to grow to producing approximately 3,500 cases per year, with a view to continuing to increase to 5,000.
Sadly, our founder, son, brother and friend, Lance Baer, passed away in May of 2007, at the age of 39. But the Baer family, Lisa and Les, with the expertise of consulting winemaker Erica Orr, are continuing to produce the wines that Lance was devoted to creating, as well as continuing to evolve and add new blends to the winery’s line-up.
Stillwater Creek Vineyard
Stillwater Creek Vineyard is a 235 acre site on the Royal Slope of the Frenchman Hills. Planted in 2000 on a steep, south-facing slope with one of the most diverse clone selections in Washington State, Stillwater Creek quickly has earned a reputation as one of the Columbia Valley’s top vineyards.
The site’s fractured rock and extreme southern exposure are ideal for reds, especially Cabernet Sauvignon, Merlot and Syrah. White grapes are planted on a mixture of fractured rock and areas of fine sandy loam.
Temperatures during the growing season favor warm days and cool nights. Grapes ripen beautifully under these conditions, enhanced by both hours of light per day during the summer and the total number of sunlight days from bud-break through harvest.
Rated 91 Points by Wine Enthusiast
This wine is mostly Merlot and Cabernet Franc (42% each) with the balance Cabernet Sauvignon and Petit Verdot. It's redolent with aromas of flowers, raspberries, herbs, coffee and barrel spice that lead to tightly wound focused fruit flavors. There's enough tannic heft to reward cellaring.
