Tenute Barone Di Valforte
Silvi, Teramo, Italy
The ownership of the estate and the vineyards has belonged to the Sorricchio di Valforte family since the 14th century and extends over 52 hectares of vineyards in the heart of Abruzzo between the Adriatic Sea and the Gran Sasso massif.
The historical continuity of the family is represented by brothers Guido and Francesco Sorricchio from Valforte, and Annamaria, Guido's daughter. It is up to them to collect the legacy of history and tradition with the task of passing them on to the new generations.
Thanks to their passion and love for the territory, over the years the family has concentrated its efforts on the production of typical and native grapes of the Abruzzo territory, preserving its identity and obtaining wines of great refinement and elegance, such as Trebbiano d' Abruzzo, Cerasuolo d'Abruzzo and Montepulciano d'Abruzzo.
History
The Sorricchio family of Valforte, originally from the ancient town of Atri, in the Teramo hills, has owned the baronial fiefdom of Valforte since the 14th century.
There are various testimonies that speak of a very well-known and influential family, whose characters achieved fame in politics and the arts. The historians Nicola and Luigi Sorricchio are in fact responsible for the most important manuscripts containing documents, information and archaeological research on the history of the city of Atri.
The name Sorricchio indicates a typical sickle for cutting wheat, which is also depicted in the very ancient family coat of arms. This element testifies to the family's close bond with their land. Bond that has been passed down over the centuries from generation to generation.
It is therefore no coincidence that the Sorricchio family cultivates today as then the same lands that their ancestors cultivated with love and dedication, and with respect for the history that preceded them.
