'The name Timorasso often crops up when wine lovers speculate what Italy's future whites might be. This straw yellow wine reveals itself shyly at first, quiet summer-meadow scents and flavours which mingle fresh apple and bitter lemon. The more time you spend with the wine, though, the more conscious of it's qualities you become. There are warmer, almost honeyed notes to the aroma, as well as the warmth of the harvested grain. The palate, too, is backed by ample volume, width, dry depths and layered resource: it's an archetypical 'slow wine'. By the end, we all wanted more. And we might get it: Derthona (the Roman name for Tortona) has no legal status at present, but may eventually come to signify pure Timorasso from this indigenous variety's Piemontese heartland." JB
Broglia Timorasso Derthona
Colli Tortonesi DOC 2018
Broglia Derthona comes from a selection of Timorasso grapes and is produced through a particular 18 month long vinification, exclusively carried out in small steel tanks. This exclusive method along with bottle aging, enhances the best characteristics of Derthona wine, its structure and minerality.
Tasting Notes
Deep light straw yellow color, delicate, very persistent, fruity and reminiscent of the aristocratic scent of the grapes from which it is derived. Dry, agreeable, clean and harmonic.
Food Pairings
Pairs well with light, delicate dishes, such as appetizers and fish courses, as well as white meat dishes.
Timorasso
Timorasso is a Piemontese white grape that yields crisp, high acid, and very mineral-forward wines, with white floral aromas, ripe stone fruit, and bright citrus flavors. The high acidity makes it a white wine suitable for aging.

Broglia is one of the historical wineries of Gavi.
Gavi is located in province of Alessandria, in the heart of the eleven municipalities of the
Appellation. It gives its name to the wines within its classification, since it’s the most important town at the center of its production zone.
The whole Gavi area is composed by 1,500 Ha of areas under vines.
La Meirana is located in the heart of this territory and represents the most ancient name
attached to it.
Total winery production is 720,000 btls, which includes – along with Gavi di Gavi DOC and DOCG, a small production of Vecchia Annata, Metodo Classico, Barbera, Nebbiolo and Gavi Sparkling.
Germany,UK and USA are the most important markets.
La Meirana is the name of the Broglia family estate, established by Bruno Broglia and managed today by his sons, Gian Piero and Paolo, who continue the winery’s ultra-millenary tradition.
The whole estate’s 250 acres are planted with Cortese with an average yield per acre of 95 quintals due to the laws regulating the Gavi di Gavi appellation.
The rich structure and acidity of Broglia’s grapes produce a wine which is suitable for aging, maintaining its aromas and freshness over time. La Meirana’s roots in winemaking date back over a millennium.
The Broglia family acquired this historic estate in 1972, two years before the area received the designation of Gavi DOCG. Broglia has grown and evolved along with the appellation, actively assisting in the development of Gavi.
Broglia was the first estate to collaborate with the Universita` di Torino in clonal research of the zone’s prized Cortese varietal. This research continues today and additional research is done in the winery to better understand sulfite-free vinification in collaboration with the Universita` di Milano.
Now a third generation family business, Broglia safeguards its oldest vineyards, which date back to the 1950s, thanks to the unique calcareous marl soil that allows the vines to have an extended lifespan. However, in the winery, which was renovated in 2000, the best of modern winemaking techniques are used to continue and elevate the tradition of Gavi. Their efforts have been rewarded with recognition as one of the top Gavi producers on the international stage; receiving titles such as Tre Bicchieri, and also as one of the only wines shown at the prestigious G8 Summit and, in addition, it was chosen as the only white wine to be served to the world’s greatest leaders, at the G20 gala dinner in St. Petersbourg on September 5th 2013.
