Butternut Cabernet Sauvignon California 2019
The old adage says that Cabernet is King. We created Butternut Cabernet Sauvignon to be enjoyed by Cabernet lovers and novices alike. Aromas of red berry fruit emerge from the glass with flavors of dark chocolate and round tannins lingering on the palate.
Vintage: 2019
Alcohol: 13.5
Appellation: California
Grapes: 100% Cabernet Sauvignon
Fermentation: Temperature control fermentation to extract color and tannin 14 days on the skins
Aging: Aged on 25% New French Oak
Aromatics: Ripe, clean red fruits dominate: black cherry, cassis and raspberry are showy in the nose with a hint of cedar, full of primary fruit.
Palate: The fruity, effusive aromas show well in the mouth with good intensity as it enters the palate, with grippy but moderate tannins framing the wine.
Food Pairings: The wine certainly has the body and structure for a New York or Ribeye cut of steak, and a steak frite, turkey chili or Beef Stroganoff would be excellent matches as well.
Butternut Wines
What’s in a name? That which we call Butternut by any other name would taste as sweet. Or something like that, right Shakespeare? The name Butternut came quite literally from a butternut squash. We had Butternut chardonnay all blended and completed in a barrel, but we didn’t have a name. When our winemaker, Tony, noticed his wife walked in the door with a veggie box from a local farm, which included butternut squash, the light bulb went off! At first, some people didn’t think the name would catch on, but soon we realized that the name truly described the wine. “Butter” represents the style of Chardonnay, and “nut” represents the oak and wine flavors like vanilla and hazelnut.
We started with Chardonnay and we now have 4 varietals including; rosé, pinot noir, and cabernet. Thanks to our amazing customers, like you, we sell well over a million bottles of Butternut a year. A real-life fairytale version of ‘started from the [garden] now we’re here!’
Miller Family Wines
Five Generations of California Farming
A Family of Winegrowers
The Miller family’s California farming and ranching legacy dates to back to 1871, when William and Francis Broome moved from England to the West Coast of California and began farming in southern Ventura County.
The farming legacy passed down to William Broome’s granddaughter Elizabeth, and following her marriage to Robert Miller in 1942, the Miller Family became the steward of the farming business.
In 1973, the Miller family developed a vineyard in the Paso Robles highlands and named it French Camp for the Basque shepherds who once populated the area. The area had a special allure thanks to the largest day/night temperature swings, mineral rich soils and highest elevations in the regions.
The 1400 acres of French Camp provide the Miller Family with the highest quality fruit sources that help to create the highest quality wines.
