This muscular red shows an austere character, offering loamy earth, anise, espresso and mineral flavors that frame a core of currant and cocoa. The tannins are ripe, with enough acidity to keep this balanced. Reserved but rich. Drink now through 2031. Thomas Matthews, August 31, 2020

Elaboration
This wine is the result of a rigorous selection process, choosing only the best grapes from the Monastrell and Cabernet Sauvignon variety. The grapes were harvested in the third week of October at their optimum ripening point in 15 kg boxes. The selected fruit was chosen by the same wisely hands that did it the previous year. The grapes corresponding to each variety were macerated in contact with the skin and fermented for 20/30 days at a controlled temperature of 28oC. It has spent 12 months in new French and American oak barrels.
Ego Bodegas
Ego, talent and infinito are the three identifying words that have been able to make this possible; three words that define what we want to transmit.
The founders of Egobodegas have been bound to the wine world for more than a decade, it may seem little time compared to other wineries, but long enough to feel fascinated by the magical combination of the soil and the native grape variety, the Monastrell.
They have devoted themselves to constructing a project that revolves around having the best vineyards in the area and obtaining the best possible fruit. This finally develops into the creation of the liquid that, as Socrates said, transports us to a sweet happiness.
Ego: The concept of I
Talento: The capacity for the performance or execution of an occupation
Infinito: The limitless power of the dream
These three words personify the core of our wines through a combination of blending actions and reactions, with the successes and failures of our short existence.
Ego Bodegas
Ego Bodegas has 25 hectares of 50 year old vineyard with varieties such as Syrah and Monastrell Pie Franco.
They are situated in a privileged location within the beautiful area of Jumilla.
Winery
Keeping with the modern aspect of the winery and its surroundings, we ensure the use of the best technology available to make the vinification a clean, easy, safe and highly controlled process.
The Winery is located just a few kilometres from the historic city centre of Jumilla.
Since the beginning of the construction of the facilities, we have been taking care of the small details to ensure that we are able to work in the best way possible, facilitating the cohabitation of traditional methods with modern techniques.
The grapes of each of our vineyards ferment in separate steel tanks. The capacities of these tanks range from 4.000 to 20.000 litres.
With consistent quality being our single objective, we aim to ensure that our wines in the market are ready to drink but able to improve along the years.
The winery is designed to produce various maturities of each grape variety in optimum conditions.
Each vineyard requires a tailored fermentation. The fermentations range from 18 to 20 days.
Commitment
Our aim is that the wines reach the market ready to drink, but with sufficient life ahead so they are able to improve through the years.
Vineyards
Our vineyards are situated in the protected area of the D.O.P. Jumilla where the climate is arid and receives more than 3.000 hours of sunshine per year. It is one of the driest wine areas of Spain with very little annual precipitation, falling at just 300 litres per square metre per year.
The climate in the region is continental, influenced by the Mediterranean in the east and by the plateau of La Mancha in the west.
The sunny and arid climate receives more than 3.000 hours of sunshine per year and is one of the driest wine areas of Spain.
The little annual precipitation of 300 litres per square metre has been the average rainfall over the past few years.
Like in the south-east of Spain, Jumilla is an area regulated by its climatic complexity where the contrast is obvious; summers are hot and winters are cold, leading to extended drought and violent torrential precipitations.
This climate allows us to obtain small bunches of grapes with a good concentration of sugar, excellent acidity and thicker peels. The grape is harvested by hand in 15kg boxes before passing through a selection table that allows them to enter into the winery practically whole.
When we speak about the Denomination of Origin Jumilla, we speak about the Monastrell grape.
Monastrell is the grape variety that has best adapted over time to the climatic and soil conditions of this denomination, resulting in its characteristic wines.
This variety represents over 80% of the vineyards of this denomination.
