The Garesio 2015 Nizza Riserva doles out extra richness and concentration. The wine pours to an inky dark appearance with ripe aromas of plummy fruit, dried cherry and blackberry preserves. Those dark fruit tones are backed by oak spice, tar and tobacco. Those spicy notes play a big role in the wine's DNA, although they remain carefully balanced and folded into this Riserva's rich texture. This is a great choice for barbecued spare ribs with spicy sauce.
Garesio Barbera d'Asti Superiore
Nizza Riserva DOCG 2015
The Nizza DOCG area covers a relatively large and hilly area south of the town of Asti and around the town of Nizza Monferrato. Formerly known as Barbera d’Asti Superiore Nizza, this DOCG was created in 2014. To produce this Riserva, Garesio uses grapes that come from the best exposed rows in the vineyards. According to DOCG regulations, Nizza Riserva must age for at least 30 months before release, 12 months of which is in oak barrels. The result is a very intense and elegant Barbera with a great structure, able to age for a long time.
Tasting Notes
Ruby red color. Ample, complex nose with fine scents of red berries, cherry and sour cherries. Velvety, harmonious and fresh on the palate, with excellent structure and great persistence. Good balance between fruity aromas and warmth.
Food Pairing
Ideal with red meat, roasts and braises. Excellent with aged cheeses.

Respect for the Land and Tradition
The enological choices are based on the full recognition of the local vines, enhancing the greatness of the crus and terroirs, the nature of the vines and the peculiarities that each one is able to transfer into the wines.
We operate in the vineyard according to a rational and non-invasive philosophy: the minimum of possible interventions, only when necessary, studied row by row.
The profound respect we have for our vineyards has prompted us to choose a management of the vineyards that is even more attentive to the environment, for this reason in Serralunga d'Alba we grow certified organic Nebbiolo grapes, all the other company grapes are certified integrated sustainable production.
The Company
Over the years the passion that binds the Garesio family to wine is transformed into a constant and punctual search for the places suited to the best wine production.
Since 2010, the family has bought about 20 hectares of land dedicated to wine production divided between Serralunga d'Alba, the heart of the Langhe del Barolo; Incisa Scapaccino and Castelnuovo Calcea in Monferrato and Perletto in Alta Langa.
Together with the search for the vineyards, the Garesio family has given life to a work of recovery and redevelopment of the ancient farmhouse of Serralunga d'Alba. The redevelopment process will lead to a functional transformation: from a cellar to a charming complex, the experiential place where you can understand, appreciate and enjoy the extraordinary richness of the Serralunga and Barolo hills, now included in the Unesco World Heritage List.
The Cellar
We have a clear idea of wine: the most authentic expression of a territory by far, never grumpy or monumental, but always welcoming and approachable.
The vinification proceeds in the traditional sense, adopting the best technologies aimed at preserving the wine in its varietal purity, without exasperation, but also without traditionalism. The awareness that each harvest has a unique value and character drives us to adapt the vinifications according to the vintages, enhancing their peculiarities.
In continuity with tradition, Garesio favors long fermentations and macerations, in steel barrels, delicate and balanced extractions.
The use of wood is dosed with extreme care. We prefer large and medium-sized woods, tonneaux and Austrian oak barrels. For our top wines we use Stockinger barrels: Austrian woods aged at least 7 years in which the character of the Barolo di Serralunga is refined and refined.
