Harvested: September 10 – October 11, 2014
Bottled: April 6, 2016
Composition: 57% Cabernet Sauvignon, 27% Cabernet Franc, 15% Merlot, 1% Petit Verdot
Alcohol: 14.9%
Winemaker: Kate Anderson
The intensity of this wine is first revealed by its garnet core, then from concentrated aromas of dark black cherry and coffee, nicely lifted by notes of candied red fruits, sarsaparilla and a hint of leather. Upon entry, the showy, plush Merlot and floral, fleshy Malbec leap forward, followed by more subtle dried grass and tea flavors from the Cabernet Franc, immediately balanced by the grip of savory old vine Cabernet Sauvignon and brooding Petit Verdot. A cooling swath of pebble reaches across the palate, as the fine-grained tannins culminate in a lingering and satisfying finish. This wine is ready to enjoy upon release and can age for up to seven years. Winemaker's Notes
Tasting Notes: This wine leads with delicate floral aromas of violets, dried herbs, cloves and a hint of gravel, with a distinct Right Bank influence driven by the Cabernet Franc. The palate is rich and concentrated, with chewy Bing cherry, juicy ripe plum, and hints of dark chocolate and sweet orange peel. This is a fleshy, full-bodied wine with substantial tannins. Bright acidity, reminiscent of Bergamot, is a hallmark of the vintage, and balances the rich fruit over a long, pebbly finish.
Winemaking Notes: Jayson Red Wine is a distinctive blend of Bordeaux varieties, crafted to express each vintage with intensity and richness. Fermented in stainless steel tanks to enhance the fresh fruit profile and retain its bright acidity, the wine was racked to barrels (45% new French oak) for fifteen months and bottled with minimal fining and filtration. We make this wine to be enjoyed upon release, but it will age beautifully for a decade.
Vintage Notes: The 2014 growing season was the third in a string of stunning vintages in Napa Valley. Dry, mild temperatures brought on early budbreak, while the persistent drought helped produce small berries with concentrated flavors and elegant tannins. The overall length of the growing season was normal, allowing for full ripening and fresh, balanced acidity, however given the early start to the crop, it was our earliest harvest on record. Most of all, this year will go down in history for the earthquake that rocked Napa just days before harvest. Fortunately, our winery and vineyard were safe, but the greater community was deeply impacted, and the event defined the entire season.
