Winemaking
It is harvested in small trailers with very little height. Then, it is taken to the winery where it is destemmed by hand and fermented in 10,000 kg tanks. During the fermentation, a lot of fruit, colour and sweet tannins are extracted. Once the fermentation is finished, it is left to marinate for a few days with its lees to extract more structure. Malolactic fermentation happens in new French barrels. It ages for 15 months and then bottled to stage for a year.

Luis Saenz
Legacy & Winery
Luis Saenz wines are elaborated with grapes from an area called El Castillo located in El Cortijo, in the heart of La Rioja Alta.
Surrounding this castle, defensive tower of the depression of the Ebro River, are our century-old vineyards, from where the Sierra Cantabria is dominated, with its peculiar León Dormido Mountain.
In these poor, clay-calcareous lands, our grandfather planted this beautiful vineyard "El Castillo" at the beginning of the last century, one of the oldest vineyards on our property and, possibly, of the entire Rioja Denomination of Origin.
Currently, this legacy, in the hands of the Sáenz Family, is traditionally cared for and cultivated to obtain the highest quality and to elaborate our wines with its own personality and name: Luis Saenz.
Luis Juan Saenz defines himself as a winegrower aware of the fact that his work culminates and is rewarded in obtaining these great wines that bear the family name of this legacy: Luis Saenz, from our grandfather to our days; joining tradition, culture and innovation.
