Pagus De Lagrange Haut Medoc 2019
Suppleness, Brightness, Finesse
Chateau Lagrange's third wine is a Bordeaux, made with two-thirds Merlot and one-third Cabernet Sauvignon planted in the typical gravel soils of the Bordeaux Médoc. Chateau Lagrange is a wonderful property in Saint Julien and they make excellent wines. Enjoy it for the next five years.
All the expertise and philosophy of the Lagrange estate is apparent in this wine which is Merlot and Cabernet Sauvignon, aged twelve months in barrel. Haut-Médoc de Lagrange is produced from thirty-year-old vines located on two parcels just outside the Saint-Julien appellation. This is a wine that charms us with its unique bright character.
Tasting Note
First we appreciate the silky robe. The nose is lively and inviting and then the entry in the palate is frank, offering spicy notes along with flavoursome blackcurrant and cherry. A wine with timeless style.
Tasting Notes
This hot, dry vintage brought such an extraordinary concentration in the grapes that the yield was a mere 37hl/ha. This phenomenon was especially true for the Cabernet Sauvignon, explaining the unusually high proportion of Merlot in the blend this year. Our Cabernets provide the backbone and freshness in this wine that offers pleasant aromas of blackcurrant, cherry and liquorice. The generous presence of the Merlot brings volume, smoothness and balance to the whole, promising a longer drinking window. The key word in this very attractive vintage is Harmony.
The Vintage 2019
2019, just like 2018, will be remembered for its really contrasting weather. We had a cold, wet spring, and then a dry, hot summer with record breaking sunshine! This was the longest harvest we had ever seen. The berry weight was the lowest of the last 36 years at Lagrange. We took a gamble stopping for a while between the Merlot and the Cabernet, judging the latter's phenolic maturity not in adequacy with its technological maturity. It was important not to rush, tasting the grapes daily as the skins became gradually thinner and aromas were progressively revealed: we harvested the richest grapes in the estate's modern history.

Chateau Lagrange
Grand Cru Classe En 1855 Saint-Julien
Château Lagrange, Third Classified Growth in the 1855 classification, nestles in the heart of the renowned Saint-Julien appellation.
An uncompromising quest for excellence
An uncompromising quest for excellence, such is the philosophy here. For several decades now the exceptional terroir has inspired a unique approach where precision and innovation are paramount.
Château Lagrange's vineyard stretches over two Gunzian gravel slopes where the highest point of Saint-Julien thrones on the beautiful estate.
Harmony
Harmony is the key word for each and every man and woman at the Château. We never force Mother Nature, we merely guide her. Each year, the work in the vineyard, where attention to detail and age-old traditions are combined, gives birth to a unique, elegant, powerful wine able to age well over time.
The Vineyard
Over 35 years ago, our vineyard was re-planted and re-structured, resulting in today's well balanced and distinguished wines, honed by the magic of time.
A visionary approach that has been maintained over the decades: always show the greatest possible respect for the terroir and the environment.
Expressing the best of each terroir: with this objective in mind, we re-organized the vinification cellar with one stainless steel vat adapted to each and every plot in the vineyard.
Let Time fulfill its mission.
A benevolent eye is kept on our wines as they mature gently in the barrel aging cellars.
