Quinta Pedra da Cancela is the result of the Gouveia family’s passion for wine. The wine exploration has been a family activity for several generations. Recently, the vineyards were restructured, others were acquired and a modern wine cellar was built with refined technology, all this respecting the culture of the Dão region.
This elegant and evolving Dão reveals the amazing potential for balanced wines of this region, due to our unique terroir. It was in the valley of Portugal’s highest mountains that we harvested and blended the three main grape varieties, searching for character and identity.

Tasting Notes
Shows a nice floral component, a fragrant tone, which joins ripe blackberries, a touch of fresh herbs. Harmonious, with pure fruit always in the foreground, very clean, inviting.
Tasting Notes
Color: Intense Ruby, slight purple notes
Aroma: Intense Red Fruit, plum and hints of cocoa.
Taste: In the mouth it reveals a freshness, soft body and elegant tannins, typical of Dão wines.
Final Taste: Very smooth, nice and long.

Food Pairing
Serve well with red meat and soft cheese.
Winemaking
Gentle maceration and fermentation at a controlled temperature between 16 and 18 C. Stage for six months in oak barrels "Allier" and three months ageing in cellar before being released to the market.
Pedra Cancela
Started over 20 years ago, by the family of João Paulo Gouveia, it all started in the heart of his family, and in his vineyards in Oliveira de Barreiros in Viseu, where terroir and tradition were its foundation.
Today the Pedra Cancela project is re-invented, adding the wisdom and experience of João Paulo Gouveia in viticulture and his strong work of reinterpretation of the grape varieties in Dão, and thus based on the difference of wines in the vineyard, with the experience of more than 20 years of oenology in various geographies of Sónia Martins. With new vineyard plantations in the Dão Region and some with a distinct identity such as Vinha da Fidalga in Carregal do Sal, the Pedra Cancela project aims to express the Dão terroir to the world beyond borders and for all those passionate about the art of wine.
Pedra Cancela wines have a strong regional "terroir" identity, despite the "finesse" that characterizes them and the international touch. They are “terroir” wines, using traditional grape varieties, in some cases almost extinct grape varities and vineyards of different ages, resulting in complex wines, full of identity, with the aim of taking Dão to cross any borders.
