Camphor, rose, cedar and ripe red berry aromas come to the forefront on this beautiful Barbaresco.  Smooth and elegantly structured, the focused palate features ripe Morello cherry, crushed raspberry, star anise and white pepper alongside taut, refined tannins.  Fresh acidity keeps it well balanced.  (9/2022)

There is a more pronounced mineral and delicately spiced character to the 2019 Barbaresco, with notes of wet asphalt and kirsch and vibrant purity.  It has elegant concentration, with fine coiled tannins in its hints of tea leaves, bergamot, and ripe wild raspberry, and has a more pronounced structure.  This is a fantastic expression.  Drink 2024-2040.  (AF)  (5/2023)

Produttori’s Barbaresco classico feels lively and light, its tart cherry and red-plum flavors fleshing out over several hours to show impressive depth and complexity.  The tannins are firm and ripe, guiding the juicy red-fruit flavors to a long and balanced finish that’s freshened by a note of orange zest.  (12/2023)

The 2019 Barbaresco is a gorgeous wine to drink now and over the next 15-20 years, give or take.  Sweet, floral and open, the 2019 offers lovely brightness and energy to match its mid-weight, nervy feel.  Sweet dried cherry, mint, crushed flowers and savory notes all grace this soft, understated Barbaresco from the Produttori.  Antonio Galloni Vinous Media, September 2022

This wine represents 50% of this highly respected co-op’s production.  (25% is their Nebbiolo Langhe and 20–25% single vineyards, released as Riservas after one extra year’s ageing.)  Bottled March 2022.  There are just a few thousand bottles left.  Transparent and already almost brick, but blackish.  Mellow nose already nicely integrated.  Round and spicy with some balsam.  Very agreeable!  Nice energy.  Fine tannins only on the end.  (11/2023)

Barbaresco is one of the most prominent wines in the Piedmont region.  Since the 13th century, the cultivation of the Nebbiolo grape has largely defined the winemaking culture of the region. 

 

Nebbiolo is a slowly maturing grape which makes it easily susceptible to changes in differing soils and climates.  As a result of the subtleties of the microclimates in Barbaresco, the wines take on a fascinating range of spice and fruit flavors. 

 

Barbaresco is much smaller than the Barolo region, yet it benefits from the influence of the Tanaro river allowing for grapes that ripen earlier and maintain an overall lighter character.

Intense nose of spices, pepper and black cherries.  Powerful, firm, elegant sip with ethereal flavor.

Founded in 1958, the priest of the village of Barbaresco, recognizing that the only way small properties could survive was by joining their efforts, gathered together nineteen small growers and founded the Produttori del Barbaresco.  From its humble beginnings making the first three vintages in the church basement, Produttori del Barbaresco has grown to a 52 member co-operative with 250 acres of Nebbiolo vineyards in the Barbaresco appellation and an annual production of over 500,000 bottles.  Its vineyards amount to almost 1/6 of the vineyards of the area.  Each member is in full control of their land, growing Nebbiolo grapes with the skill and dedication they have honed over generations.

Playing a key role in elevating the quality level of Barbaresco over the years, Produttori del Barbaresco produces a simpler Nebbiolo Langhe, a Barbaresco blend and nine single vineyard wines produced in premier vineyards:  Asili, Rabajà, Pora, Montestefano, Ovello, Pajè, Montefico, Muncagota and Rio Sordo.
