Winemaking

Douro Wines
The Douro is the oldest demarcated and regulated region in the world. Characterized by a mountain culture benefiting from an extremely rugged orography, limited by mountain ranges to the South and West and plateau areas to the North and East.
Its climate is characterized by cold and rainy winters, followed by hot and dry summers. The region is divided into three sub-regions with very specific characteristics: Baixo Corgo, Cima Corgo and Douro Superior.
Quinta dos Aciprestes
Quinta dos Aciprestes, a historic estate bordering the Douro River, boasts a replanted vineyard with noble grape varieties. Since 1860, this quinta has been an amalgamation of three neighboring estates, known for producing excellent Douro red wines. Its top classification for Port Wine production highlights its exceptional terroir. The estate's landscape, extending 2.2 kilometers along the Douro River, showcases beautifully surfaced vineyards on gentle slopes.
Located between the sub-regions of Cima-Corgo and Douro Superior, its vineyards benefit from a microclimate, which offers ideal conditions for the ripening of red grapes, contributing to the traditional style of Douro red wines.
The original farm – called “Cyprestes” – was founded in the 19th century. XVIII by D. José de Seabra, one of the ministers of Queen D. Maria I and, later, owned by her successors, the Viscounts of Baía.
Easily identifiable by its Cypresses, trees located next to the farmhouse, and by the landscape character of the place, framed by vineyards arranged vertically, highlighting the absence of traditional terraces, the result of recent work to reconvert the vineyards.
Quinta dos Aciprestes surrounds the Douro River with its gentle slopes, in an area completely replanted with the noblest varieties of the Douro Demarcated Region.
Real Companhia Velha
Real Companhia Velha is the oldest and most emblematic wine company in Portugal. Founded in 1756 during the reign of Dom José, the company never interrupted its activities. It is the largest owner of Quintas in the region, where its most emblematic property is Quinta das Carvalhas. Other iconic properties are Quinta dos Aciprestes, Quinta do Síbio, Quinta do Cidrô and Quinta do Casal da Granja, all located in the Cima Corgo sub-region, considered by experts to be the most noble area of the Douro.
Origin
Since 1960, Real Companhia Velha has been owned and managed by the Silva Reis family, which has dedicated all its efforts to the production of Port and Douro DOC Wine, through an in-depth study of the Douro terroir. The Company owns 5 Quintas in the Alto Douro Wine Region, Quinta das Carvalhas, Quinta de Cidrô, Quinta dos Aciprestes, Quinta do Casal da Granja and Quinta do Síbio; totaling 557 hectares of own vineyards.
