Rosa Regale Brachetto D' Acqui by Banfi
Sparkling Red
Rosa Regale has a delicate bouquet of rose petals and offers sensuous flavors of fresh raspberries and strawberries.
“You’re too young to be a goddess, “
he said, bewitched by a female body and face that emanated seduction like the light and heat of the midday sun in the desert.
Without taking his eyes off her, he took a cup brimming over with red wine and handed it to her. She raised it slowly to her lips. She drank and savoured every drop of that cool sweet wine with its flavour of flowers and roses, like the ones she used to pick as a little girl in the gardens of the royal palace.
In a flash she felt his lips on hers. An intense, profound kiss that exalted the sweet, sweet taste of the wine that still inebriated her. For long lingering moments he was no longer Caesar, the great Roman general, the victor of a thousand battles and wars, the astute and able politician. And she was no longer Cleopatra, the ruthless queen of Egypt, heiress to an ancient dynasty.
Brachetto d’Acqui thus enters myth. In ancient Rome it was known as Vinum Acquense, originating, that is, from the area round Acqui Terme, the town founded by the Romans in the Piedmont region of northwest Italy.
The legend says that the great Roman general Caesar and the Egyptian sovereign Cleopatra made a toast with Brachetto d’Acqui.
After all, the main characteristic of our Rosa Regale Brachetto d’Acqui is precisely the sweetness that acts as a prelude to seduction. Intense ruby red in colour, pleasantly sweet and fizzy with a perfume of roses and red fruit, it is the ideal wine to accompany any moment of the day: from brunch to cocktails, from aperitifs to dinner to an evening with friends.
Rosa Regale is also 100 percent Italian, a wine that’s a symbol of genius, originality and uniqueness. The very essence of Italian style worldwide.
Forget The Ordinary
In 1979, John and Harry Mariani, family Proprietors of Banfi Vintners, acquired a mid-18th century winery, known as Bruzzone, revitalized it and renamed the facility Banfi Piedmonte.
Here, with the same detailed care as a century ago, our skilled winemakers produce “Rosa Regale” Brachetto d’Acqui D.O.C.G. This rare Brachetto, a semi-dry, red sparkling wine cherished by the courts of Europe over two centuries ago, owes its reincarnation to Banfi.
Rosa Regale is created in one of Italy’s smallest production zones, the Brachetto d’Acqui Denominazione di Origine Controllata e Garantita, commonly referred to as DOCG. It is crafted from 100% Brachetto grapes grown exclusively at the La Rosa Vineyard in the town of Acqui Terme located in the Piedmont region of Italy. The label features a single red rose, representing the wine’s origin from this single vineyard La Rosa estate.
Rosa Regale’s quality comes from the vineyards. However, since this is a sweet, aromatic wine, wine making techniques are also essential to preserve the grapes’ elegant scent. After a careful harvest, the must is allowed to macerate on the skins for 2 to 3 days, thus resulting in a limited actual alcohol content. In this way, a deep beautiful pink color is obtained, thanks to the time spent in contact with anthocyanin-rich skins. The pressing technique is fundamental to the final result: “soft” and elegant.
Rosa Regale is produced using the Charmat process or Metodo Italiano (Italian Method). This method forces the second fermentation to happen in large stainless steel tanks prior to bottling, rather than in the bottle like the traditional méthod champenoise. This process is best used on sparkling wines that are meant to be enjoyed young and relatively fresh.
Banfi Piedmonte
In the late 1970s, John and Harry Mariani, just over a year after the founding of Banfi in Montalcino, acquired the historic Piedmontese winery Bruzzone. The holdings extend between the towns of Novi Ligure and Acqui, over an area of 124 acres, of which 114 are under vine.
Banfi Piemonte, since its inception, has undergone a constant growth, interspersing an inherent typicity with technological innovation, and a distinct vocation for quality sparkling wines. The strong link to the region is evident in the selection of wines proposed by Banfi Piemonte, all expressions of principal indigenous varietals and Metodo Classico bottle fermented sparkling wines, crowning efforts celebrating the most prestigious denominations of southern Piedmont.
The winery, completely restored and renovated in recent years, was conceived to preserve, while at the same time exalting, the unique character of our grapes. In addition to the production of Charmat method sparkling wines, the cellars extend to an area dedicated to the production of Metodo Classico, where wine fermenting in the bottle rest on traditional, centuries-old pupitres.
Banfi
Banfi was founded in 1978 thanks to the will of the Italian-American brothers, John and Harry Mariani.
From the beginning, the goal of the two brothers was to create a state-of-the-art winery combined with the most advanced science in the vineyards for the production of premium wines.
Together with the Mariani family, Ezio Rivella, one of Italy's foremost enologists, who understood that due to the richness of the soils and the privileged microclimatic position, the property would have great capacity of development.
In those years, the brothers, John and Harry, also purchased Bruzzone, a historic winery in Piedmont. Founded in 1860 and specialized in the production of sparkling wines, today is known as Banfi Piemonte.
The Winery
Designed to protect the integrity and richness of the grape, the winery employs state of the art technology, the result of revolutionary technical research and innovation.
And in this same philosophy, based on continual research, that a number of projects came to be on our estate, including the clonal study of Sangiovese, research on the composition and aging of wood for barrels – the great protagonist of aging wine – and the completion of our “Horizon” microvinification area, creating a winery within a winery. This project, entirely conceived and developed by and at Banfi, is made up of a series of expedient high level solutions undertaken to improve upon each phase of winemaking.
The tremendous undertaking for vinification is followed by a long silent rest in wood, where the great wines of Banfi, principally reds, evolve over the passage of time and refine their most distinctive characteristics of strength, elegance and longevity. More than 7000 customized barrels, laid out in orderly rows, and large casks make up the heart of Banfi, which beats in the silent and peaceful ambience surrounding our winery.
Banfi In The World
The wines of Banfi are born of a passion and love for unique terroirs, from continuous research, and from the intimate knowledge of different territories and the ability to marry time tested and respected techniques with innovative solutions in both the vineyard and the winery.
The splendid vineyards of Montalcino and Chianti, of Piedmont and the Tuscan coast, are the ideal cradle for wines of great character and outstanding quality. In recent years, Banfi has grown significantly its range of wines. Exclusive for Italy, in addition to distribution of its own wines from Tuscany, as well as from Piedmont, were added Concha y Toro, one of the most renowned wineries of Chile in the world, and Emiliana, known and appreciated worldwide for its organic and biodynamic wines. For the Italian market, Banfi also distributes the prestigious Sicilian Palari wines and the fine Joseph Perrier Champagne. Recently the portfolio was enriched with two new jewels: from Washington state the Pacific Rim Riesling and from Oregon the Rainstorm Pinot Noir.
