What Makes Schlink Haus
Our Family
Since 1886 the Schlink Family has been based in the heart of German wine country, the Nahe. The Schlink Family is on its fifth generation of winemaking, with innovation and quality still at the forefront of this family winery.
Our Home
Nahe is one of the smaller German wine regions with an extraordinary range of soil types. Volcanic, sandstone, clay, limestone, and slate rocks are all present in the Nahe. This is a peaceful landscape of vineyards, orchards, and meadows interspersed with cliffs and striking geological formations.
Our Wines
Schlink Haus is the home of the original blue bottle riesling, now produced in the same location for over 200 years. The New Schlink Haus Organic line is made from 100% certified organic Dornfelder and Riesling grapes.
The Schlink Haus Family Tradition
Schlink Haus has been producing blue bottle riesling for over 134 years along the Nahe River Valley, a region of Germany, located between Mosel and Rhein. For 5 generations, the Schlink family has bottled their wines in the iconic cobalt blue bottle here.
The Schlink Haus winery was founded in 1886 by Josef Barthelmeh in the township of Wallhausen, in the Nahe River Valley. Over the years the winery was handed down to the oldest child in the family starting with Alois Barthelmeh, Josef's oldest son. Alois oldest daughter, Rosemarie Schlink began to innovate and bring the winery to the forefront of the German Market. Rosemarie was well educated and had worked in the wine business from the childhood. When Rosemarie officially joined the family company she was 18 years old making deliveries for her fathers winery.
In the 1950's wine was delivered in wooden cases of 24 bottles and every case was brought into the wine-cellars of the private customers. The delivery truck was a Opel Blitz (GM) a very famous truck in the 1950. Rosemarie's husband was Günther Schlink, the son of Georg Schlink. Georg was the president of one of the first vintners cooperative in the Nahe Valley. Günther followed his father into the wine business and moved the company to Bad Kreuznach in 1952. Günther and Rosemarie lead the Family business for 60 years together and making Bad Kreuznach their home.
Michael Schlink, oldest son of Günther and Rosemarie, was born into the wine business. He studied business administration in Germany and soon after joined the family business and was announced President and owner of the company 1991. Michael and his wife Michi have brought their vast family tradition.
During the 1980's some German Riesling producers began switching from traditional brown and green bottles to the cobalt blue to distinguish themselves from the rest of German Riesling. The Schlink Haus blue bottle is iconic, as they were producing the Blue Bottle well before any commercial opportunity was created.
