Casa Américo Red Reserve 2015 is produced with carefully selected grapes from Touriga Nacional, Tinta Roriz and Alfrocheiro.  Coming from vines planted in granitic soils at an altitude between 400 and 600 mts with the influence of the mountain of 2000 mts of altitude, located in the sub-region of Serra da Estrela.

Alcohol:  14%

 

Winemaker Pedro Pereira’s Tasting Notes

 

A wine with a deep ruby color, aroma with wild berry cream, pine needles and light toast.  In the mouth it has noble tannins, silky texture and a long finish.

 

Vineyards

 

These grapes are from vines planted in granitic soils at an altitude between 400 and 600 mts with the influence of the mountain of 2000 mts of altitude, located in the sub-region of Serra da Estrela.

 

Vinification

 

The grapes were carefully selected in the vineyard and then fully destemmed into a traditional granite “lagar”.  During the fermentation the wine assembled by foot treading, with the temperature controlled by endogenous plaques.  After the fermentation, the wine went to 225L second year French oak barrels, where it rested for twelve months.

 

Ageing:  12 Months in 225L French Oak Barrels

Noble wines from the Dão Region

 

The brand “Casa Américo” was established by the hands of Américo Seabra, father, who had the dream of producing wine in his homeland, Vila Nova de Tazem.  This dream has come to fruition by the work and dedication of his sons, who recovered the property of the 18th century and created the suitable infrastructures to produce wines of excellence.

 

Today we have more than 100ha of vineyards, spread over 17 properties, with the oldest vine dating back to over 100 years old.  These vineyards are planted in poor granite soils, with the noble grape varieties of the region.  Located at 500-600m altitude, on the slopes of Portugal’s highest mountain, Serra da Estrela, which is considered one of the most important terroirs of the Dão region.  In the cellar we only work with indigenous varietals, showing the upmost respect to each of them, so they can truly express their unique terroir and their high elevation home, showing elegance and balance.
