The 2009 Rioja Reserva from Señorío de P. Peciña is a lovely example of this ripe vintage in the region, as it comes in at a very civilized 13.5 percent alcohol, which was no small feat in this hot summer in Rioja. The wine is wide open and really expressive on both the nose and palate, with the bouquet delivering a fine blend of sappy red and black cherries, toasted coconut, cloves, cigar ash, a complex base of soil, a bit of meatiness and a potpourri of Rioja spice tones in the upper register. On the palate the wine is deep, full-bodied and velvety on the attack, with a superb core of fruit, still a bit of backend tannin, excellent focus and grip and a long, poised and complex finish. A lovely bottle that is just starting to hit on all cylinders, but will age very long and gracefully and there is absolutely no hurry to be cracking bottles of this excellent Rioja. Ruby with a bright rim. Lively, expansive aromas of red berry preserves, floral pastilles and vanilla, with a smoky mineral overtone. Seamless and sweet on the palate, offering juicy raspberry and cherry flavors sharpened by juicy acidity and a hint of white pepper. Finishes sappy, precise and very long, with smooth, harmonious tannins. This wine was fermented in stainless steel tanks and aged in used American oak for three years. (JR) (11/2015)

Delicate aromas of dried red fruits such as dried strawberries and dried cranberries complemented by soft-spice undertones. Full-bodied and structured. Tannins are round and juicy, while the finish is long, fresh and fruity. (12/2016)

The 2009 Señorío de P. Peciña Reserva was sourced from their own vineyards in the Sonsierra, from different plots of vines averaging 40 years of age on clay and limestone soils. All the reds are Tempranillo-based blends with some 3% Garnacha and 2% Graciano; the wine ferment in stainless steel with indigenous yeasts and without much extraction or long maceration. In this case, the aging was in used American oak barrels with racking every six months. The nose is tertiary and it shows some oak aromas and some notes of licorice, truffle and forest floor. The palate shows abundant, slightly dusty tannins that give it some rusticity. It ends quite dry. (LG) (8/2016)
Senorio De P. Pecina Rioja Reserva 2009
Elaborated from the finest grapes from our vineyards in San Vicente de la sonsierra, calcareous clay soil, the grapes are destemmed and crushed and fermented naturally with wild yeast in stainless steel tanks.
It has been resting for 36 months in used American oak barrels. In this time, we have done six rackings (once every 6 months) by means of the traditional method, “barrel to barrel”, achieving a natural decantation. After being in bottle for a minimum of 18 months, the wine finds its balance and it is ready for consumption.
The wine is bottled unfined and unfiltered.

Bodegas Hermanos Peciña S.L.
San Vicente de la Sonsierra · La Rioja
Bodegas Hermanos Peciña S.L. was founded in 1992 by Pedro Peciña Crespo with his three children in a small winery in the center of San Vicente de la sonsierra, where only “cosechero” wine was elaborated. In 1997 the firm began a new phase, with the inauguration of the new bodega and the elaboration of white wines and aged red wines: Crianzas, Reservas, Gran Reservas.
Pedro´s grape growing accumulated experience over the years and a historical old school bodega was useful to launch his project under his leadership.
The bodega has 50 hectares of their own vineyards, an installation to handle 1.000.000 kilos of grapes, 4.500 American oak barrels fitted in three cellars and two aging stores for 500.000 bottles.
Since its founding, investments in new projects have been increasing every year:
The Zone
Bodegas Hermanos Peciña S.L. is located in the heart of Rioja Alta, more specifically in Sonsierra Riojana, where the vine growing tradition dates back several centuries. In fact, throughout the area we can find numerous stone wine presses hewn out of the rock and situated next to the vineyards.
Sonsierra is a prime area for the vine growing, set among the peaks of the Sierra Cantabria and the banks of the Ebro River, where the Atlantic and Mediterranean climates coexist to give a microclimate that produces unique and unbeatable grapes.
The ground composition is of calcareous-clay with a high proportion of limestone, that allows us to obtain glycerin extract, very important for the elaboration of our wines, which brings softness and volume in the mouth and small amount of potassium to get an adequate acidity.
The microclimate of our geographical location, which comprises only about 40 square kilometres, provides our wines essential features. The North wind avoids pests and rots, the daylight time has an average of 2800 hours / year and the rainfall (500mm per year) is perfect, forcing the plant to suffer water stress and getting smaller grains with higher concentrations of sugar and colouring matter.
The altitude of our vineyards ranges from 475 to 600 meters, allowing a phased and uniform harvest and obtaining the benefits of the different vineyards altitude. Since we pick up the lowest vineyard to the highest one, the duration of a harvest campaign takes around 25 days.
