Pinot Noir, “Blauburgunder” or “Pinot Noir”, is one of the most appreciated and ambitious red wines. It is also a vine that does not adapt to all conditions and always constitutes a challenge both in the vineyard and in the cellar. Thanks to its refined aromas and its unmistakable character, it enjoys great prestige. In the cooler, but also sunny cultivations of Appiano, Pinot Noir develops its full potential, generating a full-bodied and elegant wine.
Tasting Notes
Northern Italy up in the region of Alto Adige there is a sweet spot that gets a beautiful southwestern exposure, and it is there where the pinot noir for this wine grows. With aromas reminiscent of wild blackberries and raspberries, this wine with its garnet-red color provides an elegant and fruit forward wine. Fermented in stainless steel and aged in wood, this wine will be perfect the casual skirt steak, flank steak or burger on the grill.
These typical South Tyrolean wines, vinified in a traditional way, white and red; they tell of a particular microclimate and our soils. Kellerei St. Michael – Eppan Cantina
Founded in 1907, St. Michael-Eppan has carved out a leading role within the world of northern Italian wine. Winemaker Hans Terzer, has the great merit of having directed the production of the wine cellar to the high-quality wine, setting his work on attention to detail and a perfect combination with tradition and the importance of innovation. The estate is considered one of the biggest names in South Tyrol and one of those names that can be considered a real guarantee for wine lovers. They are devoted to create great red and white wines in perfect synthesis of this great terroir. Regardless of the bottle you choose, there is an absolute guarantee of quality, it is an important piece of the history of South Tyrol and a wine produced with passion and skill that only a major producer can offer.
For well over 2000 years, the area around Eppan has been fruitful for the cultivation of quality grapes. Within the heart is South Tyrol, in northern Italy (arguably the area’s finest grape growing region) where the St. Michael-Eppan winery is located and has been producing some of the region’s finest wines for over a century. At the helm is Hans Terzer, who works closely with around 340 individual growers, some of which only farm an acre or 2, to protect the quality of all the grapes that go into his wines. He has done an amazing job taking these wines into the next level. Gambero Rosso has awarded its highest honor ‘Tre Bicchieri’ to numerous wines from this special winery. Especially the Sanct Valentin line, themselves known as some of the area’s most prestigious wines. They were also awarded the Gambero Rosso Winery of the Year in 2000.
