Rated 94 Points by James Suckling
A rosé Champagne for red-wine drinkers, thanks to all the red-berry and earthy character, plus some rather serious tannins. The long finish is carried by a positive hint of bitterness. Pinot noir dominates the blend, of which 14% was red wine made specifically for this product. Drink or hold.
Rated 93 Points by Wine & Spirits
This is a powerful Rosé, built with the addition of 13 percent red wine (pinot noir from Bouzy) and 11 percent of the blend aged in oak foudres. It starts off youthfully intense, with a smoky black-tea edge to the tannins. The wine is structured and savory, freighted with limestone earthiness until it grows bright and racy with air. This is built to last.
Veuve Clicquot Vintage Brut Rose 2012
Vintage Rosé 2012 is the expression of a prodigious harvest, despite an extremely challenging climate.
Champagne is a wine of legend. The entire history of the Veuve Clicquot House is marked by mythical wines, all of which respect the demand for quality that was the force that drove Madame Clicquot. True to this heritage, the House is proud of its motto: "Only one quality, the finest". A short lineage of just 10 Cellar Masters has led this quest for quality, thereby ensuring the continuity of the Veuve Clicquot Style: Strength and Complexity. Veuve Clicquot prides itself on Excellence and Quality. Only the juice from the cuvee (the first and most noble pressing) is used.
The Wine
In 1810, Madame Clicquot invented the first Vintage Champagne, in 2012 Veuve Clicquot declared the 66th vintage of the Maison. With grapes exclusively from Grands and Premiers Crus, Pinot Noir dominates the blend (51%) and provides the structure that is so typically Clicquot, followed by Chardonnay (34%) that adds finesse and elegance essential in a perfectly balanced wine, and then Meunier (15%) that rounds out the blend. The Vintage Rosé 2012 blend is elaborated with 13% red still wine, exclusively from the Pinot Noir of Bouzy. The uniqueness of the Vintage Rosé 2012 lies in the addition of 11% of wines aged in large wooden casks (foudres), bringing strength and aromatic intensity. The cask-aged wines act as spices to the blend, bringing very lightly woody, vanilla and toasted aromas.
Tasting Notes
"The palate is powerful and voluminous, with an attack that is distinct and clear. It unfolds with initial aromas of luscious red fruit, strawberry and Morello cherry. Next to arrive are dense notes of noble tannins; their velvety, silky caress is the perfect counterpoint to Vintage Rosé 2012’s spicy saffron and peppery notes."
Robe: Deep Rose Color, Copper Hues
Aromas: Red fruit and wild strawberry, Noble tannins and saffron, Pastry and almond

Lobster, Abalone, Duck, Langoustine
The House of Cliquot
It takes a very singular conjunction of conditions to make Veuve Clicqot Champagne, a fine balance between nature’s unpredictability and the house’s savoir faire.
Madame Clicquot
Madame Clicquot was born in Reims in 1777. As the daughter of Baron Nicolas Ponsardin, her social standing allowed her to obtain an excellent education, founded upon the traditional morals and values of the time.
In 1798 she married François Clicquot, son to the founder of the Maison Clicquot. François shared his passion and knowledge for champagne creation and distribution with his young wife.
It was because she had spent this time at his side that Madame Clicquot was able to take the reins of the family house after the untimely death of François in 1805.
In an era when women were excluded from the business world, she dared to assume the head of the company, a role she undertook with passion and determination. Madame Clicquot’s character might be summarized with two words: audacious and intelligent.
She would seize each new opportunity that arose, willing to take risks, and as such she was able to expand her business to all four corners of the world. Uncompromising when it came to the quality of her wines, she perfected new techniques of production. She invented the “table de remuage” (riddling table) to clarify champagne, and innovated the very first blend of rosé champagne. Within just a few years she made her name into a brand of excellence, a name today renowned throughout the world. Even then, her peers recognized her formidable contributions, and referred to her as the “Grande Dame of Champagne.
