This classically styed red offers one of the best values in our portfolio. The 2019 vintage was a dream come true and many fantastic barrels ended up in this blend. This is the biggest percentage of Cabernet Sauvignon we’ve ever had in this blend. It is the perfect example that a blend is bigger than the sum of its parts. It is perfect to be served with food and will have great aging ability.
Wolffer Estate Classic Red Table Wine
Long Island New York 2019
A Gold Label Wine
Our Gold Label wines showcase the beauty of our maritime terroir at an outstanding value. This easy go-to red blend includes varieties such as Merlot, Cabernet Sauvignon, Cabernet Franc and Petit Verdot. This wine is extremely food-friendly and will age very well.
Composition: 55% Cabernet Sauvignon, 28% Merlot, 11% Malbec, 5.7% Cabernet Franc, 0.3% Petit Verdot
Alcohol: 13%
Winemaker Notes
The wine is dark red brick in color. It has classic aromas of cassis and dried plums with iodine and licorice notes backed by fine toasted sandalwood and a beautiful flintiness. The mouth-feel is big yet elegant and focused with the Cabernet Sauvignon clearly leading the charge. There is a bold fruit forwardness and a ripe layered tannin structure. The Malbec provides a nice mid-palate and the finish is compact and has great minerality. This wine is delicious when enjoyed young, but it will certainly improve with age for a decade or two.
Food Pairing Notes
Serve at cellar temperature, or slightly cooler. Pair this versatile red with flavorful pasta dishes, grilled or braised beef, game or lamb. Or serve it with a wide selection of richer cheeses and dark chocolate.

Vintage 2019
The 2019 Vintage may be the greatest vintage of Long Island. The season started cold and wet, however, ended with three perfect growing months, producing healthy, solid grapes and grape skins with fantastic aromas. Combined with our detailed and immaculate vineyard management the vintage turned out to be a dream. After a fantastic season, we started hand picking the red fruit on October 15th with Malbec and finished with Petit Verdot on October 27th 2019. Careful selection was carried out in the vineyard and on our sorting table. The grapes were de-stemmed on our new CMA Dream Destemmer and fermented separately in stainless-steel tanks or open top bins. During peak fermentation, the wine underwent three pump-overs or punch downs a day increasing the fruit character and the structure. The grapes were macerated on the skin for a total time between 13 to 23 days and then were pressed gently separating the press fractions. The wine finished 100% malolactic fermentation in our Upright Oak Tank and in stainless-steel. All of it aged in French Barriques (15% new oak) for 7 more months. In August the wine was blended after intensive blending trials. The wine was racked a total of three times and was bottled the week of January 18th 2021, resulting in 2, 184 cases of 750ml bottles.

Since 1988, Wölffer Estate Vineyard has been committed to producing premium, distinctive wines, ciders and spirits through our dedication to quality, penchant for style and celebration of place.
A sustainable vineyard in the heart of the Hamptons
The Roots
For 30 years, Wölffer Estate Vineyard has been known as one of the finest producers on the East Coast and a center for innovation and hospitality. We are committed to producing premium, distinctive wines, ciders and spirits through a dedication to quality, penchant for style and celebration of place.
Wölffer Estate was founded in 1988 by Christian Wölffer, a man with great creative vision and a huge passion for life. The estate today is owned and operated by his children, Marc and Joey Wölffer and Winemaker/Partner Roman Roth. The estate spans approximately 470 acres including the acclaimed 55 acre sustainably farmed estate vineyard located in Sagaponack, NY, 52 acres on the North Fork of Long Island, 200 acres in Mendoza, Argentina, 2.5 acres in Mallorca, Spain and 160 acres managed in collaboration with North Fork growers.
Our unique combination of Bridgehampton loam soil and breezes from the Atlantic Ocean, located 2.6 miles from the estate, provide maritime conditions perfect for achieving the balance of ripeness and acidity that has come to define Wölffer’s signature style: food friendly, elegant and built for longevity. Our dry ciders and gin have extended Wölffer quality into new categories, exemplifying our drive for innovation and excellence.
The Vineyard & Winemaking
Winemaking is at the heart of all we do at Wölffer. The process begins in the vines, where Vineyard Manager Richie Pisacano meticulously manages our 55 pristine acres of estate vines. We grow Merlot, Chardonnay, Cabernet Franc, Cabernet Sauvignon, and small lots of Trebbiano, Pinot Noir and Vignole. We use sustainable farming practices and are proud to have been certified for the 6th year in a row as one of the few vineyards recognized by Long Island Sustainable Winegrowing. We carry this philosophy across each of our owned or operated properties.
Winemaker & Partner Roman Roth makes Wölffer wine using traditional techniques, but always with an eye toward innovation. His goals are to make wines that are food-friendly, elegant and built for longevity. All our wines are made using estate-grown or locally-sourced fruit, and our Dry White and Rosé ciders are made from New York state apples, sourced from the Halsey Apple Orchard and other growers that meet the Halseys' high standards.
Christian Wölffer
Founder Christian Wölffer was a man with great creative vision and a huge passion for life. Over time he applied both to create a place where people could visit, enjoy and take part in a memorable experience. That place - Wölffer Estate Vineyard & Stables - was the realization of Christian's lifelong dream and a true labor of love.
The quintessential entrepreneur, Christian Wölffer was a master at managing an array of international enterprises. His career encompassed investment banking, venture capital, real estate, agriculture, and entertainment parks. But it was the world of wine that captured his heart. This accomplished Hamburg-born international businessman was most at home at his Eastern Long Island retreat in the heart of the Hamptons. He purchased the land in 1978 as a 14-acre parcel with a farmhouse surrounded by potato fields. By 1987, Christian Wölffer had founded his vineyard near this very site.
Joey Wölffer
In June 2009, Joey Wölffer created the luxury accessories boutique on wheels, The Styleliner. Rebranded just as Joey Wölffer in 2017, she remains at the forefront of mobile accessories and is constantly expanding the Joey Wölffer brand nationwide. Joey travels the world finding limited-edition pieces that she then curates in her shops, creating a unique shopping experience.
Joey began her career as a jewelry designer for Meems LTC, providing accessories for several High Street stores in the UK, later becoming a jewelry designer for Nine West, as well as Trend Director for all of The Jones Group. She graduated from Vanderbilt University with a degree in Human and Organizational Development. Her favorite days are still spent in the Hamptons, riding her horse Antenov and spending time with her husband Max Rohn and daughters Nell Christiana, named after her father and founder Christian Wölffer, and Evie Jardin, just born in December 2017.
Marc Wölffer
Marc Wölffer undoubtedly inherited his father’s passion for business - his career expertise has spanned the international restaurant, real estate and wine industries simultaneously. Born in Mexico City, Marc moved to Germany as a youth where he attended Munich International School. After graduation he did an apprenticeship in banking and later received an undergraduate degree in Hotel Management at Cesar Ritz in Switzerland. He trained at the Mandarin Oriental in Bangkok and the Grand Hyatt in Hong Kong. Afterwards he acquired his masters degree at the Cornell University program in Paris. Marc has managed restaurants in Manhattan and Havana, Cuba, and was hired by his father as the Food and Beverage Manager at the Sea Life theme park in Hawaii.
Currently residing in Salzberg, Austria, with his four children, Marc has opened three restaurants and is developing apartments in Palma de Mallorca, Spain. In addition to Wölffer Estate in the Hamptons, Marc also owns vineyards in Spain and Mendoza, Argentina, where Finca Wölffer Rosé and Finca Brau are grown, aged and bottled.
Roman Roth
A gifted winemaker, Roman Roth can often be heard singing in an enviable tenor voice amid the barrels in the winery. But most of all, he gives "voice" to his wines, produced by experience that covers three continents and stems from the dream of a 16-year-old boy in Rottweil in Germany's Black Forest.
Roman began a three-year apprenticeship at the Kaiserstuhl Wine Cooperative Oberrotweil while attending technical school as a teenager. Following that, he traveled to the United States, working at the Saintsbury Estate in California, then to New South Wales, Australia, at Rosemount Estate. Returning to Germany, he became a winemaker at Winzerkeller Wiesloch near Heidelberg and earned his Master Winemaker and Cellar Master Degree from the College for Oenology and Viticulture in Weinsberg.
In 1992, Roman became the first winemaker at Wölffer Estate Vineyard. He established the estate’s distinctive character - European elegance combined with the typicity of Long Island terroir. He has dedicated himself to promoting not only the wines of Wölffer Estate but of Long Island, where he has consulted with numerous vineyards and is currently the President of the Long Island Wine Council.
Roman's contribution to quality winemaking on Long Island was recognized at the 2003 East End Food & Wine Awards (judged by the American Sommelier Society), where he was named Winemaker of the Year. Recent honors include Wine Enthusiast rating the Descencia Botrytis Riesling-Chardonnay 2015 with a spot on its "Top 100 Wines of 2016" list; the 2013 White Horse Red collection all receiving 90 points and higher by the Wine Advocate (including a 94+ for Christian's Cuvee, making it the highest-rated wine in Long Island history); Wine Spectator selecting The Grapes of Roth Merlot 2010 for its "Top 100 Wines of 2015" list; Perle Chardonnay 2012 being served at The White House for President Barack Obama and Chancellor Angela Merkel of Germany; and Diosa and Descencia 2012 dessert wines each earning 94 points in Robert Parker’s The Wine Advocate.
