Vineyard
The vineyard is 148 acres (60 hectares). The vines are planted on south-facing slopes and are an average of 30 years old. The soil is made up of clay, chalk and limestone. The vines look out over the Mediterranean, where the winds of the sea are loaded with rich elements that come through the vines and give the wines exceptional quality and southern elegance.

Bernard Magrez
Bernard Magrez was born in Bordeaux in 1936 and left school at 16 to start trading wines. In 1961, at 25 years old, Bernard started his own company dedicated to whiskey and port. In the late '70s, he went back to his roots in wine and in the 1980s, he acquired Château Pape Clément, a famous Grand Cru Classé of Graves for thirty years. Next, he purchased Château Fombrauge, Saint-Émilion Grand Cru Classé, Château La Tour Carnet, Médoc Grand Cru Classé since 1855, and then, among eighteen other renowned Bordeaux estates, Clos Haut Peraguey, Premier Grand Cru Classé of Sauternes. His next acquisitions took place in eight different countries: Morocco, Spain, Portugal, Japan, Argentina, Uruguay, Chile, and the United States. In total, he owns 43 properties and more than 1,000 hectares of vineyards.
52 years ago, among his other projects, Bernard started working in the Languedoc, in the south of France. His wife is from the famous medieval city of Carcassonne, in the Aude. From the terroir of Pays d’OC, which the city of Carcassone is the symbol, is Bleu de Mer.
Red, white or rosé, Bleu de mer is a way of living conviviality, illustrated by the beautiful Pinnace, a boat that participates every year in the sailing Pinnace World Championship. The Pinnace is a typical boat of the Bassin d’Arcachon and the Gascon coastline. The boat is long, narrow and raised at the front, with a flat bottom, and traditionally made of Landes pine wood. It’s after getting to know the craftsmen of these shipyards who are building these unique pieces, mastering the woodwork like goldsmiths, following the way of the coopers and prestigious stringed instrument makers such as Antonio Stradivari, that Bernard decided to have his Pinnace built. And what makes more sense than to name it after his wine: Bleu de Mer, the symbol of freedom and an homage to men’s work.
