This is a robust and structured Rosso, its dark cherry flavors riding on firm, new-leather tannins as the wine gains notes of warm spice and graphite. Decant it to coax out the juicy red fruit tones.

A nicely spicy Rosso di Montalcino with cloves, dried flowers, sour cherries and orange peel on the nose. Creamy and medium-to full-bodied, with chalky tannin's and a ripe, chocolaty finish. Drink or hold.

Dark fruited and flush with sweet floral perfume, the 2021 Rosso Di Montalcino is ripe with boysenberry, black raspberry, pine sap, and balsamic. A bit of varnish on the opening may need some time to settle down. It has a silky and satin-like texture, with black cherry cola, mocha, and purple flowers, and the wine is medium to full-bodied, open, and inviting. Drink 2023-2038.

The Il Poggione 2021 Rosso di Montalcino (with 200,000 bottles made) offers medium fruit weight with dark cherry, wild plum and savory spice. This is a terrific vintage with moderate summer temperatures and a long growing season that agrees very much with Sangiovese, a grape that takes its time to ripen and develop complexity. This Rosso also reveals an especially spicy character with nutmeg and cinnamon that seems to come from the skins of the grape as much as it may come from 12 months in oak.

A juicy red, with leather and underbrush accents framing smoky cherry, plum and mineral flavors. Well-structured and long, with a solid grip of tannins on the lingering aftertaste. Offers fine intensity.
Il Poggione Rosso Di Montalcino 2021
Younger, more accessible version of the Brunello, but already with an excellent structure and a great personality, Rosso di Montalcino is a very important wine for Tenuta Il Poggione.
Produced entirely from Sangiovese grapes, sourced in the estate's younger vineyards, Rosso di Montalcino is aged in large casks and barriques before a period of bottle aging.
The wood aging, although not obligatory for the production of Rosso di Montalcino, tones down the tannins typical of a young Sangiovese and gives this red wine a complexity of aroma and structure that make it a great "Young Brunello".

Tenuta Il Poggione
Lavinio Franceschi, Land Owner from Florence, decided to visit the area after hearing the stories from a shepherd, who brought his herds around Montalcino during the winter. He fell so much in love with the landscape and the people who lived in the area that he decided to buy land and establish a farm.
Generation after generation, many resources were spent on research for quality, clonal selections, winemaking and aging techniques, and also by building a modern winery for the standards at that time.
Il Poggione was one of the first wineries to market the Brunello di Montalcino wine as early as the 1900’s, and one of the founding members of the Brunello di Montalcino Consortium.
After more than a Century, Lavinio Franceschi’s work is still a fundamental point of reference for his successors, Leopoldo and Livia, who continue to develop the business with that same dedication and unrelenting passion, combining the ancient skills of winemaking crafts and tradition with the latest, most innovative techniques.
