Lovely energy to this with lavender and rose petal with strawberries and raspberries. Slate and stone undertones. Minerality. Seaweed. Medium-to-full-bodied with creamy tannins. Fine texture. Fresh at the end. Tension in the finish. Drink or hold.

A rich mouthfeel and well-ripened fruit flavors give this full-bodied wine a friendly, generous expression, while modest tannins add a touch of grip to balance things out. Accented with an array of oak spices, the wine is easy to love.
Joseph Phelps Freestone Pinot Noir Sonoma Coast 2021
The 2021 Pinot Noir is fresh and lively with perfumed black raspberry and cherry aromatics wrapped in rustic forest floor notes. Juicy Bing cherry, savory herbs, and ripe dark berries create a complex and textured palate with acid structure and balance leading to a delightfully engaging finish.
Winemaking Notes
Grapes are picked at night followed by hand sorting before the fruit is gravity fed to tank for a long natural fermentation using an overall average of 8% whole clusters in the final blend. Regular punch downs result in a wine of great structure and focus with a distinctive spice character of earth and clove which is prevalent in this area of the western Sonoma Coast. 2021 Vintage Notes
The 2021 Sonoma Coast vintage is marked as having exceptionally high quality for both red and white varietals. The 2021 Pinot Noir bud break and bloom were similar to the 2020 season, both taking place slightly later than the five-year average. Veraison and harvest were within a few days of our five-year average with no heat spikes during the growing season. The long, mild growing season allowed for extended hang time and exceptional flavor development.
Joseph Phelps Vineyards
An icon begins with a relentless pursuit for excellence. Boundaries are meant to be broken. New adventures come from the road less traveled.
Joseph Phelps built the winery’s early reputation on Cabernet Sauvignon and Rhône-style bottles, but his winemaking ambitions did not rest there. Today, the portfolio includes both Napa Valley and Sonoma Coast vineyards allowing our winemakers to explore the finest of each region.
For those seeking to delve deeper into the true beauty of the cool-climate Sonoma Coast, our collection includes the Freestone Vineyards Pinot Noir and Ovation Sparkling Wine, as well as single vineyard Chardonnay and Pinot Noir bottlings from our Pastorale and Quarter Moon Vineyards. Recently, the introduction of Proem Pinot Noir and Chardonnay from these two vineyards highlight singular block and clone sections.
The Napa Valley wine range is equally layered and expressive of the terroir. It features Cabernet Sauvignon, Syrah, Sauvignon Blanc, Viognier, and our Delice dessert wine to offer wine-lovers a sweet send-off to the Joseph Phelps Vineyards portfolio.
