La Sirene De Giscours Margaux 2014
La Sirène de Giscours, a name that radiates elegance and delicacy. Our second wine, from our vines in the Margaux appellation, reflects high-precision work and remains true to the philosophy that guides production of our Grand Cru Classé.
La Sirene de Giscours (Margaux AOC) is the second wine of Château Giscours and comes from the selection of their youngest vines. The vinification and aging benefit from the same care as the Grand Vin, Château Giscours. You will be delighted by the smoothness and elegance of this Margaux.
A Hugely Delicate Wine
Just like Château Giscours, our second wine is thought about and designed in the vineyard from the spring onwards by our technical team. This process then continues in the winery to ensure that the wine’s full identity and elegance is revealed.
Winegrowing and winemaking activities are completed to very high standards to ensure the fruity notes and delicate style that we love so much at Giscours.
La Sirène de Giscours is an accessible, elegant wine with a range of aromas marked by fruit, beautiful freshness on the palate, and silky tannins that melt into a creamy texture. With its delicate Margaux touches, it can be drunk young but will also age very well. A little gem of which we are very proud.

Terroir: The 234.75 acres (95 hectares) of their vineyard is made of Garonnais gravel and glaciated sand. The ages of the vines consist of 33% 25+-year-old vines, 50% 10-25-year-old vines, and 15% 4-10-year-old vines.
Culture & Vinification
Temperature controlled and thermoregulated stainless steel and concrete vats. Aging in 100% French oak barrels (50% new oak) for 12-15 months. Racking every three months with candle.
Tasting Notes
The 2014 vintage is characterized by a beautiful purple color with black fruits on the nose. A lively attack on the palate along with a nice aromatic freshness emerging from the tannins. The persistence of the finish and the softness of the tannins portend a wine that will reach its peak between 2016-2020.
Alcohol: 11%-14%
Chateau Giscours
Grand Cru Classé, Margaux
Winemaking dates to the 14th century at this beautiful estate. Classified as a 3rd Growth Grand Cru Classé in 1855. High gravel content soil – some of the best in the left bank. 60% of the vineyards are planted with Cabernet Sauvignon, 32% Merlot, 5% Cabernet Franc and 3% Petit Verdot. Some old vines on the property reaching 70 years of age, mostly Cabernet Sauvignon.
In 1995, the château was bought by Eric Albada Jelgersma, who owns neighboring Château du Tertre, who invested in modernization.
The origins of the Giscours mermaid
For decades, it remained a mystery. Why does the label feature a mermaid clad in gold and holding a vine?
The beginnings of an answer regarding the origins of the Giscours mermaid (‘sirène’ in French) did not come until the early 20th century.
Emile Grange, who had recently acquired Château Giscours from the Cruse family, wanted to add his own personal touch to the estate. One winter evening, sat beside one of the living room fireplaces, he noticed a picture of a mermaid on the cast iron plaque. This one image invaded and occupied his thoughts. This same picture appeared on the crest of Irishman Jean O’Byrne, who founded a major trading house in the 1750s and acquired the neighbouring chateau, La Houringue.
